Fitness at What Price? Continued

Although we missed the formal date to object and to be recognized by the Copyright Board of Canada, we were told our chances of being granted “intervener” status were very good. This means FIC would become a recognized stakeholder in the Copyright Board’s decision-making process regarding the implementation of Tariff No: 6. Essentially we would be granted the same rights even though we missed the formal period to object to the proposed Tariff.

As far as we know no one from the Canadian fitness industry, including Fitness Industry Council of Canada, was notified of the proposed Tariff from the NRCC. By law, the Copyright Board of Canada must allow all users or their representatives who wish to object or oppose the proposed Tariff, the opportunity to file written objections with the Board within 60 days of publication in the Canada Gazette. This sixty-day objection period ended August 1st, 2007. That being said, we are still in time to put pressure on the Copyright Board.

This Tariff is a threat to our business, a threat to our clients, and a threat to the fitness industry in Canada as a whole.

Can you afford to pay this new Tariff? Are you willing to bet your business on it? It is time to get behind our industry and support FIC’s fight to stop Tariff No: 6. Our future is in your hands.
